Tenebra Ova

Between protection and revelation
Tenebra Ova

Tenebra Ova explores the tension between protection and revelation.

A sculptural, ovoid silhouette encases the body in an organic shell reminiscent of the finest cracked membrane — fragile in appearance, yet architecturally controlled.

At its core, deeply carved velvet with a gothic motif forms a sacred interior, contrasting the smooth bio-polished exterior. The garment functions as both armor and incubator — a suspended moment before transformation.

It is not a dress in the conventional sense, but a contained presence.

Design Title
  • TENEBRA OVA
  • DESIGN CATEGORY
  • Haute Couture / Sculptural Structural Dress / Gothic Organic Architecture
  • DESIGN CONCEPT
  • Tenebra Ova explores containment before emergence.
  • The garment translates the biological form of an egg into wearable gothic architecture.
It investigates
  • • Incubation and suspension
  • • Protection versus revelation
  • • Sacred interior versus organic shell
  • • The body as contained axis
  • This is not a draped garment.
  • It is a contained structure.
  • GEOMETRY → REAL CONSTRUCTION
  • Ovoid System
  • Silhouette is engineered as a vertical ellipse terminating at mid-knee.
  • ✔ Maximum width positioned at upper hip
  • ✔ Controlled taper toward hem
  • ✔ Clean horizontal termination at patella level
  • ✔ No flare. No mermaid extension. No train.
Volume is constructed through
  • • 8 vertical sculptural panels
  • • Subtle convex curvature per panel
  • • Radial alignment from shoulder axis
  • • Zero flat surfaces
Result
  • • Architectural clarity
  • • Organic curvature
  • • Structural balance with controlled mobility
  • CORE STRUCTURAL ARCHITECTURE
  • Without internal engineering, the shell would collapse.
  • A. INNER CORE DRESS
  • • Fitted column silhouette
  • • Princess seam shaping
  • • Deep devoré silk velvet (custom gothic motif)
  • • Stretch silk backing for flexibility
  • • Invisible center-back zipper
Purpose
  • To anchor and stabilize the outer structure.
  • B. OUTER OVOID SHELL
  • Structural Framework
  • • Spiral steel boning integrated into vertical seams
  • • Lightweight synthetic whalebone at lateral curves
  • • Reinforced collar foundation
  • • Upper back stabilization panel
  • • Hidden waist anchoring tapes
  • Load Distribution
Shell weight transferred through
  • Collar base
  • Shoulder anchor points
  • Internal waist stay
Target Total Weight
  • Under 5–6 kg
  • Structure must appear monumental yet effortless.
  • ARM ENGINEERING
  • Opening positioned below mid-bicep level.
  • • Arm remains inside shell
  • • Elbow hidden within volume
  • • Only forearm exits structure
  • • Opening edge reinforced with narrow leather piping
  • • Internal seam guard for comfort
  • Silhouette remains uninterrupted and clean.
  • SURFACE ENGINEERING
  • OUTER SHELL FINISH
Material Options
  • • Bonded silk mikado
  • OR
  • • Laminated structured organza
Texture Method
  • • Laser-etched capillary fracture pattern
  • OR
  • • Flexible resin crackle application
Requirements
  • • Surface remains flexible
  • • Subtle bio-polished sheen (10–15%)
  • • Radial alignment of crack pattern
  • • No rigid plastic behavior
  • Exterior must feel organic yet refined.
  • INNER CORE SURFACE
  • Material: Silk velvet (devoré burnout technique)
  • • Custom gothic carved motif
  • • High light absorption
  • • Deep surface texture
  • • Matte finish
Contrast Principle
  • Exterior → Membrane / tension / dryness
  • Interior → Depth / absorption / sacred density
  • MOVEMENT ENGINEERING
  • Primary Risk: Restricted stride.
Solution
  • • Hidden 3–4 cm rear micro-vent
  • • Flexible seam reinforcement at hem
  • • Inner core absorbs body movement
  • • Shell remains structurally stable
Effect
  • The body moves inside the structure.
  • The structure does not follow the body.
